Information: Dave has experienced working in both the private and public sector organizations. Originally from the east coast, he began his career working with radio communication systems on offshore drilling platforms. His first venture into the public sector side of biomedical engineering was at the Ottawa Cancer Center servicing radiation therapy systems and computer networks. In 1990 he moved back to the east coast and accepted a position at the University of Prince Edward Island providing engineering and administrative support for medical research and diagnostic imaging systems at the Atlantic Veterinary College. He moved to Halifax to in 2001 and was a Team Leader in the Biomedical Engineering Department at the IWK Health Centre. His current role is Technology Assessment Officer at the IWK where he works with both clinical and administration staff to ensure medical equipment meets safety and performance specifications and is cost effective.

Dave has Masters Degree in Health Informatics from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Technology degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland. He has completed engineering diplomas in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronic Engineering Technology and Marine Communications. He is a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with TechNova and has completed certification by the International Certification Commission for Clinical Engineering as a Certified Biomedical Engineering Technologist (CBET) and as a Certified Radiology Equipment Specialists (CRES). He is a member of Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering Society (CMBES), Canada’s Health Informatics Association (COACH) and member of the Canadian Board of Examiners for Biomedical Engineering Technologists. As the director of professional affairs he is interested in engaging other professional organizations and pursuing partnerships to support the goals of ACCES.

In his spare time he enjoys renovating and learning about his century old house near the Halifax Common and spending time at the beautiful beaches of Nova Scotia with his family.
