I grew up in Cape Breton, and began my Biomedical Engineering career in June, 2016 after graduating from Cape Breton University with a Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Electronics (also in 2016).
I am 27 years old, and I have been at the IWK for just over 5 years, initially hired when Biomed took over all the beds/stretchers/cribs/OR tables from maintenance, my first two years were solely focused on those. I then began being slowly introduced to other equipment and have since specialized in the OR and maternal/infant care, covering areas such as the NICU, Birth Unit, GYNE OR, Birth Unit OR, Family New Born, Adult Surgery, and women’s health clinics. I also take care of all anesthesia for both the women’s and pediatrics’ OR.
In September, 2018, I enrolled in an online diploma program through McMaster University, completing the diploma this past May. I am currently tackling an online MBA through Southern New Hampshire University in the US and aim to finish in the next 2-3 years.
I have worked on multiple projects throughout the IWK, including implementing an entire fleet of wireless smart beds throughout the hospital, making the IWK the first hospital in Canada (and globally outside the US) to do so. I also worked on the redevelopment of our NICU department, as well as equipment acquisition including trials and research for phototherapy for our NICU and Family New Born departments.
Outside of the Clinical Engineering world, I enjoy travelling, being active, playing sports (hockey and baseball), and being with friends and family.
I joined ACCES back in 2016, and have not missed a conference since. I look forward to tackling the role of Director of Communications and am excited to see what the future holds.
