ACCES NEWSLETTER – FALL 2016

Dear ACCES Member,

Your Executives have been ramping up work this Fall, with big projects on the horizon that will directly affect the quality of our Society and the benefits of being an ACCES member. Please have a read below and follow the links to interesting articles posted on our website:

Message from our President – Hello ACCES Members, for those who do not know me, my name is Brett Fraser and I am currently into my first term as President of ACCES. Working closely with the ACCES Executive Committee, I am eager to try and make ACCES a more informative community for Biomeds (Clinical Engineering Technologists and professionals), not only in Atlantic Canada, but to any members or non-members interested in the Society. I believe it is very important for us to answer the question what is the benefit of being an ACCES member…” keep reading

Spotlight on our Members – We believe a Society is only as strong as the relationships it fosters among its members. As such, we will be putting you, our members, in the spotlight every few months on our website and newsletters, to give you a chance to get to know your fellow members. This month’s spotlight article features a radio-savvy Clinical Engineering Technologist in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Mike Smith. Read his full story here. We encourage you to submit spotlight articles featuring colleagues and fellow ACCES members to our Director of Communications.

Director of Education – It is with great pleasure that we announce that this ACCES Executive role, which had been vacant for quite some time, has finally been filled by Daniel Thériault! Currently working for Service New Brunswick as Clinical Engineering Manager in the Moncton Area, Daniel got involved with ACCES this year, accepting the position of Director at Large at the 2015 AGM. Since becoming Director at Large, Daniel has always been willing to do more to help the Society; as such, he officially accepted the role of Director of Education in October. Any ACCES Members willing to help serve on the Education Committee should send a quick email to the new Director of Education..

2016 Membership Drive – A letter from our Director of Membership has been placed on the ACCES website, here’s a quick preview: “It’s Gary Slaunwhite, ACCES Director of Membership, with an update on our ACCES membership. As of today, October 23rd, we currently have 118 active members in our society. Our membership is currently composed of…keep reading

Western Region HANS celebrated CE Week in style – With winter just around the corner, we thought it would be a good time to reflect back on a time when things were just warming up: back in May 2016, many Clinical Engineering departments across Atlantic Canada engaged in celebrations and activities as part of the National Biomedical and Clinical Engineering Week. ACCES wanted to take the time this year to recognize Western Region HANS, whose Clinical Engineering staff came together to celebrate CE week in style... keep reading

Survey in the Works – As mentioned in the message from our President, the ACCES Executives are busy working on a survey aimed to collect information on the “wants and needs” of the biomedical community, the industry, and our educational institutions. This survey would be sent out to any persons involved within the scope of healthcare technologies as it relates to biomedical/clinical engineering. Results from this survey will be useful in shaping our Society, as well as informing decision-makers in Atlantic Canada on the current and future Clinical Engineering landscape. If you have any suggestions on what you would like to see as content in this survey, please let us know by sending an email to our President, Brett Fraser.

Finally, stay tuned to the Society’s website for details on upcoming webinars and educational offerings!

Regards,

Natalie Cormier, MIT
